Welcome to Corfe Hills School

Welcome from the Headteacher

I hope that you will see that Corfe Hills is a dynamic school with very good examination results and one that has a reputation for providing excellent individual support and advice for students.  The most recent OFSTED inspection of the school made it one of the few secondary schools nationally where every standard was judged as outstanding.

The aim of staff working at the school is to see that students are treated as individuals and mentored to enable them to make the greatest possible progress.  The school approach has an emphasis on high quality, engaging, active classroom work that helps a student enjoy their learning and be successful.  Trips, visits, visiting speakers and activities are encouraged at Corfe Hills and they are planned to give students an exceptional school experience.  The aim at this school is to make school years memorable and enjoyable by creating a safe, supportive environment that helps to build confidence and self -esteem.  Drama and music are celebrated in major school shows performed at the Lighthouse theatre in Poole.  Sports reach their pinnacle on the bi-annual sports tours that have recently visited New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.

At the heart of success measures for the school is academic achievement and students have the opportunity to reach the highest levels at GCSE and A level.  The school sixth form typically has 500 students and very strong university links.  In any year 160 – 190 students progress to university with the help of a strong advice and guidance process that includes advice for those wishing to gain ‘Oxbridge' places or places to study medicine, veterinary science or dentistry.

The school does aim to provide a strong influence on developing students' integrity, reliability and empathy.  The full British Council award for International Schools was gained by Corfe Hills through links with many countries including active links with schools in Ghana and China.  The international approach aims to embrace diversity and develop in students an understanding of different cultures and societies.

The inclusive comprehensive approach of the school provides tailored support for students with Additional Educational Needs and the school has the capacity to welcome students who have physical disabilities.

Treble Victory for Corfe Hills
Years 9,10 and 11 have hit a hat trick. For the first time all year groups made it to the PEDSSA football finals (Poole and East Dorset School Sport Association) and won their games. This is a brilliant achievement and one that reflects the depth of sporting quality we have at Corfe Hills School. Thank you to all the students for their commitment throughout the season and for the way in which they represented the school. Thank you also to all those who supported us whatever the conditions.

Appointment of New Headteacher
The Governors are delighted to announce that following a rigorous selection process, Mr Gary Clark has been appointed as our new Headteacher from September 2012.  He is currently the Deputy Headteacher of Twynham School, Christchurch.  We have every confidence that he will build on the past and current successes of our school leading it to even greater things.
